Message from Partners for Life Police Appreciation Run

I thought I would share the following message I received from the Partners for Life Police Appreciation Run.  I completed the 10K, which followed the waterfront and downtown streets of Saint Petersburg and was held in memory of fallen police officers Jeff Yaslowitz, Tom Baitinger, and Dave Crawford.

The three reasons you joined us:
Tom, Jeff, and Dave

PARTNERS FOR LIFE
POLICE APPRECIATION RUN / WALK

A GIANT THANK YOU!

to the 1,170 athletes who joined us for our Inaugural Partners for Life Police Appreciation Run last month. I can only hope we exceeded your expectations in producing these races.

From our perspective, it was a magical morning as we memorialized our fallen officers, showed appreciation to our law enforcement officers, and raised funds to establish the Partners for Life Foundation.

With your participation, the net proceeds after expenses were right at $20,000 for Lorraine Yaslowitz to establish her Partners for Life Foundation in memory of her husband Jeff and fellow officers Tom Baitinger and Dave Crawford.

Sadly, the exhilaration of staging the race was short-lived, as we woke up the next morning to news reports of Matthew Little, the security guard, being slain in St. Petersburg.

We hadn’t even completed all the paperwork to create the foundation, but Lorraine directed that $2,000 of the proceeds be offered to assist the family of Matthew Little. While we all understand there is no amount of money to replace a loved one, we also know the financial aspects can be burdensome.

Moving forward, the foundation’s mission will be to assist families who lose innocent loved ones due to acts of senseless violence, help establish bank accounts to receive donations from the public, make the first donation as seed money, and then announce the account to the public. This is Lorraine’s way of giving back to the community after receiving so much support.

I hope you enjoyed our event as much as I did. It was an honor and a privilege to help pull this together in six weeks for Lorraine, her family, our law enforcement officers, and our running community.

COMPLETE RESULTS

Please remember, that as per USATF rules, your “clock time” (from when the race starts until you arrive at the finish line) is your OFFICIAL time. Your chip time records the time it took you to complete the course from start line to finish line. Your chip time will usually be faster due to the time it takes to cross the start line when lined up further towards the back. It is offered as an additional measurement for your own personal use. Posted results are subject to revisions and final corrections at the discretion of the Chief Scorer.

Timing and Scoring questions, send Chief Scorer Ric Dorrie an e-mail.

JOIN US AT FACEBOOK!
To communicate with our athletes efficiently as well as attract new athletes, as race director, I have created a running-specific profile to complement the recently-created and race-specific “Florida Road Races” Page. I use both to keep endurance athletes up-to-date as upcoming races approach. In addition, the Florida Road Races page will have photos, videos, and links posted to it as time permits. I hope the public page will provide a forum for discussion among athletes who participate in our road races.
